There is an ideal scene in the back of our minds that when we meet our soul mate, everything will be perfect. Not movie scene perfect, but something far beyond imagination. The world will slow down, almost to a stop. Everything will fade, except you and your soul mate. There will be a moment you both make eye contact, then suddenly, you just know. You’re meant to be together. This is love. This is a spiritual connection unlike anything you’ve ever felt. This is it.
I won’t say that’s not how it works.
There are definitely some people who describe their initial encounter as something like perfection. That, meeting a soul mate really does make you feel like the rest of the world doesn’t matter. But, there are dark truths to finding your soul mate as well. Such as unavailability.
Many individuals have met someone they know was their soul mate. But, that soul mate was out of reach for one reason or another. Often times, we can find our soul mates are already married. Some people say that if two people are married, they can’t be soul mates for others’. I disagree, because I feel like many people settle when it comes to love. They stop searching for true happiness and land in a state of mediocre love. There’s nothing wrong with that. But, if you meet someone who has settled, there is a chance they have a soul mate out there waiting to pull them from that same life.
The beauty of soul mates is that we can find more than love in them.
We can find friendship and understanding. Sometimes, when two soul mates can’t be romantically involved, the best thing they can do it use their connection to be the best of friends. We all need a really great friend, after all. Yes, it might be hard because you have feelings for one another. But hard is not impossible. With enough determination, you’ll be able to make a friendship work. After all, it’s better than losing them, right?
Marriage isn’t the only thing that can keep soul mates from exploring each other.
Distance can offer itself as an obstacle too. You may meet someone one day and feel that rush, that spark. Only to find out they live on the other side of the world and are only sight seeing. It’s a drag, but it does happen. Of course, you could always move to the other side of the world to try and make the relationship work. At least, give it a fighting chance. For some people, that is a realistic option. But for most, it isn’t. Then you’re stuck letting your soul mate disappear. In these instances, exchanging information is a good way to feel like it’s not a total loss. Maybe you can chat online, or over the phone. You can build the bridge of your relationship around the distance. Then, one day, maybe you can manage to physically be together. It’s possible.
It’s hard to not feel discouraged when you can’t be with your soul mate. But you have to keep an open mind and a positive heart. You are on the right path, regardless of how it feels. You will find a way.
