She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1991. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Maggie and her husband, Alex, raised their 2 sons in Hampton, South Carolina.

She is survived by her husband Richard Alexander Murdaugh (Alex), her oldest son Richard Alexander Murdaugh Jr. (Buster), her sister, Marian Branstetter Proctor (Bart), her parents Kennedy Hubbard Branstetter and Terry Lee Branstetter, Summerville, her brothers-in-law, Randolph Murdaugh IV (Christy), John Marvin Murdaugh (Liz), her sister-in-law, Lynn Murdaugh Goette (Allen), and her many nieces and nephews (Libby, Hannah, Kennedy, Mills, Trey, Reeves, Mary Elizabeth, Caroline, Mary Marvin, Liza Grace and Randolph).

Paternal grandparents are Paul Terry Branstetter (112326703) and Margaret Elmore Branstetter (190504581), from Horse Cave, Hart County, Kentucky.
